Our curriculum is inclusive, ambitious and designed to meet the diverse needs of all pupils. It is underpinned by a clear understanding of learners’ starting points, with careful assessment used to identify gaps in knowledge and inform personalised planning. This ensures that all pupils are supported to make strong progress from their individual baselines.

The National Curriculum provides the foundation for our planning and sets the expectation for high academic standards. However, the curriculum is primarily delivered through a Functional Skills and Personal Development model, enabling pupils to secure essential literacy, numeracy and life skills. Where appropriate, pupils are supported and encouraged to access GCSE qualifications in subjects aligned with their strengths, interests and post-16 aspirations.

A strong emphasis is placed on personal development.  PSHE is embedded throughout the curriculum and is integral to developing emotional resilience, wellbeing and readiness to learn. Targeted 1:1 interventions further support pupils in overcoming barriers, leading to improved engagement and progress across both academic and personal outcomes.

The curriculum offer is broad and balanced, providing access to a wide range of accredited qualifications up to Level 2, including GCSEs. These are carefully matched to pupils’ interests and intended next steps. Qualifications are designed to support progression into further education, apprenticeships or employment, ensuring that all learners are well prepared for life beyond school.

At Key Stage 4, pupils follow personalised Employability Pathways, allowing them to specialise in areas such as vocational, technical and creative subjects. This approach places pupils at the centre of their learning, increasing motivation, independence and engagement, while equipping them with relevant, industry-informed skills.

Inclusion is central to the curriculum design. Reasonable adjustments are made to ensure all pupils can access learning, and high expectations are maintained for every learner. The curriculum supports pupils to develop knowledge, deepen understanding, build practical skills and grow into confident, well-rounded individuals.

The curriculum is regularly reviewed and adapted to reflect the changing needs of pupils and the wider context. Teaching is delivered by skilled and knowledgeable staff who adapt their approaches to suit individual learning needs and maximise outcomes.
