Personalised
Curriculum
At TILT Education, we deliver an inclusive, ambitious and inspiring curriculum that develops the whole child’s knowledge, skills, understanding and personal qualities. Our curriculum is designed to meet the diverse needs of our learners whilst maintaining high expectations for every pupil. It promotes independence, resilience, confidence and aspiration, ensuring that young people are well prepared for further education, employment and adult life.
Our curriculum is underpinned by a clear understanding of each pupil’s individual starting point. Careful assessment identifies existing knowledge, skills, strengths and gaps in learning, allowing highly personalised learning programmes to be planned. This ensures that every pupil is appropriately supported and challenged to make strong progress from their own baseline.
The National Curriculum provides the foundation for our planning and establishes the expectation for high academic standards. However, learning is delivered through a personalised Functional Skills and Personal Development model, enabling pupils to secure the essential literacy, numeracy, communication and life skills required for future success. Where appropriate, pupils are supported and encouraged to access GCSE qualifications in subjects that reflect their strengths, interests and aspirations.
Our curriculum is broad, balanced and coherently sequenced to ensure clear progression in knowledge and skills across all subject areas. It is continually reviewed and refined to remain responsive to pupils’ individual needs, emerging interests and future ambitions. Careful planning and adaptive teaching ensure that pupils of all abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, can successfully access learning, develop new knowledge, apply key skills and achieve meaningful outcomes.
Literacy, numeracy and Personal Development sit at the heart of our curriculum. English and mathematics are embedded across subjects, providing pupils with regular opportunities to apply and consolidate their learning in meaningful and purposeful contexts. Weekly targeted interventions further support pupils to address gaps in learning and maximise progress. Personal Development, including PSHE, emotional wellbeing, careers education and preparation for adulthood, is woven throughout the curriculum, equipping pupils with the confidence, resilience and independence needed to thrive beyond school.
Recognising the needs of our learners, core academic subjects are taught during the morning when pupils are typically most settled, regulated and ready to learn. Afternoons provide a more practical, vocational and experiential curriculum, including Art, DT, Catering, Physical Education, Outdoor Pursuits, Forest School and KS4 Options. These rich learning experiences enable pupils to apply classroom knowledge in real-world contexts whilst developing teamwork, communication, problem-solving, leadership and employability skills.
Through this carefully balanced academic, vocational and therapeutic approach, our curriculum enables every pupil to experience success, develop a love of learning and leave TILT Education with the qualifications, skills, confidence and aspirations needed to achieve their full potential.
